Top 3 Stunning Bangkok Views from Bars
The growth in rooftop bars over the last ten years in Bangkok has been exponential. Singapore was probably the first to initiate the trend in Asia, along with Hong Kong, but Bangkok’s sheer size and geographical spread means there are more rooftop bars here than anywhere else in Asia.
The scale of Bangkok means that you can enjoy an evening’s imbibing while taking in different views of the city that are a pleasure to spend an evening with friends or visitors.
Vertigo & Moon Bar Banyan Tree Hotel
The story behind the Banyan Tree Hotel off Sathorn Road is unusual. The land was inherited by a family’s children and as they all had different ideas, for practical reasons, a super slim tall hotel was the choice of one of the heirs.
The bar and alfresco restaurant soars an incredible 61 floors above Bangkok’s heaving milieu and traffic, to offer a sparkling cityscape that is close to the Skytrain and MRT underground system. Each year the Banyan Tree Hotel organizes a stair run for charity where skyscraper runners compete with each other to race up the steps, with the winner coming first.
It’s quite a rough and tumble affair in the beginning but you have no need to climb, as the elevators take you to the Vertigo & Moon Bar in style and comfort.
This bar is on the south side of Sukhumvit situated on Thanon Ratchadapisek Mai. It overlooks Benjakiti Park which is next to the Sirikit Centre so there’s an awesome lake that takes up the view, with joggers and families walking around the perimeter in one of Bangkok’s most elegant and friendly parks.
Long Table specializes in Thai foods that are prepared with attention to detail and presentation. The Thais are fond of paying this place a visit and there really is no better place to order from the menu, or enjoy some cocktails, to watch the sun go down over a spectacular Bangkok skyline.
The bar isn’t too far from the Asoke/Sukhumvit intersection so whether you are travelling by car, Skytrain or MTR it’s never too difficult to peel off and ascend the tower for a chill-out hour or two.
Cloud 47 is one of the latest additions to the skybar scene and it makes for quiet an accessible evening drink in terms of pricing. Unlike most skybars where the drinks skyrocket in prices, Cloud 47 is a more friendly and casual atmosphere with a beer for sale at well under 5 Dollars.
The tower entrance to Cloud 47 is located on Silom Road, so you’re in the heart of the commercial and nightlife district. Keep an eye out for the building name with a Red Logo saying United Centre on it. The rooftop bar takes the newcomer by surprise as its extraordinarily large, providing a sparking 180 degree panoramic view of Bangkok below. The Chao Phraya view is a little bit in the distant so Cloud 47 isn’t the best if you enjoy a cocktail over the river, but all in all it’s a very laid back visit with a stunning skyline.
